April Report: Main Site

Hey Everybody,

After 9 months of no postings at all I think that it is time to say what has been going on here in the Work Force Academy's main site.

Ms. Delgado's Work Force Intern Program has turned over so many students, sending them to our worksites, so there are several new faces now running around with their green vests. Ms. Numani and Ms. Llanos are also working hard with our students, preparing them for a worksite in the very near future. Norberto has made a dramatic turn around since he joined the interns. Michael joined them a little while back. Jonathan Carillo has found his niche with the Interns. Matthew Corcino is still "the Man" in the Intern Program. Jonathan Q, Richie, Maria, Lajourn, Hector and Jonathan R. have also joined to form an incredible team.

The Cafe Program is doing well, as usual, under the watchful eye of Ms. Friedman and Ms. Sanchez. Juan and Anthony are graduating this year. They have come a long way in their time in the Work Force Academy. Britney, Jamel, Charles, Judy, Christian, Ronique, Luis, Robert and Nicolette are well prepared for a community-based worksite by September. There will be plenty of openings in the Cafe Program in just a few short months.

Ms. Freder has an eager group of students organized for her new Copy Crew. They have already done an excellent job with the Emerald Society book and are looking forward to more work in the near future. Of course the Copy Crew would not be able to survive without the capable assistance of Tito who is a whiz with the machines in Room 137.

Our program is moving in a very positive direction. We are discussing programs for next year that will focus on teaching reading and cooperating with a school wide theme of the Fifty States. Ms. Edwards came aboard and brought her incredible skills as a Wilson-trained instructor and the students are finding great success in her class. Mr. Haynes and Mr. Haynes are also trained Wilson reading instructors while Ms. Dalrymple is preparing to utilize Achieve 3000 to teach reading next year. Ms. D. also continues to put out Free Style, a newspaper that is completely written by our students. She also edits "Work Force Academy News" where work is highlighted.

Speaking of work...kudos to Luis Angel Perez from Ms. Delgado's class for working after school and on weekends at the International House of Pancakes here in the Bronx.

Our math department still features Ms. Vasquez, Ms. Freder and Mr. Velasco which will change when Ms. Freder has her full time in house work class next year.

Thank you for viewing my Work Force Academy Blog.
